Michanic collects the following types of information to provide and improve our mobile mechanic services:
- Personal Information — Your name, email address, phone number, and physical address provided during account registration or booking.
- Vehicle Data — Make, model, year, registration number, VIN, mileage, and service history of your vehicle(s) as provided by you or obtained during servicing.
- Location Data — Your location when you request a service, used solely to dispatch the nearest available mechanic and to verify our coverage area.
- Payment Information — Transaction details processed through our secure payment partners. We do not store full card numbers on our servers.
- Usage Data — Information about how you interact with our website and app, including pages visited, features used, and device information.
How We Use Your Data
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
- Service Delivery — To process bookings, dispatch mechanics, perform vehicle diagnostics, and deliver repair and maintenance services.
- Communication— To send booking confirmations, service updates, invoices, and respond to your enquiries. We may also send service reminders based on your vehicle's maintenance schedule.
- Service Improvement — To analyse usage patterns, improve our platform, train our mechanics, and develop new features that better serve our customers.
- Legal Compliance — To comply with applicable South African laws and regulations, including tax and financial reporting requirements.
Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only in the following limited circumstances:
- Mechanics (Limited) — Assigned mechanics receive only the information necessary to perform the service: your name, contact number, location, and vehicle details relevant to the booking. They do not have access to your payment information or account credentials.
- Payment Processors — We use PCI-DSS compliant payment processors to handle transactions securely. These partners process your payment data in accordance with their own privacy policies and industry security standards.
- Legal Requirements — We may disclose information where required by law, court order, or governmental authority.
POPIA Compliance
Michanic is committed to complying with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA). As a responsible party under POPIA, we ensure that:
- Personal information is processed lawfully and in a reasonable manner that does not infringe your privacy.
- Information is collected for a specific, explicitly defined, and lawful purpose related to our services.
